About me?
Hi, I’m Johanna, a French perinatal and parenting specialist, and the founder of Motherhood in France.
I’m also the mother of two young daughters, living in Brittany with my South African husband, who speaks English and Afrikaans.
I’m someone people often describe as warm, sunny, and deeply caring. I love meaningful conversations, laughter, and creating spaces where women feel safe to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. Creativity has always been part of my life, through painting, home renovation, interior design, and all the small details that bring beauty and intention into everyday life.
But the heart of my work lies elsewhere: in women, in motherhood, and in the profound transformations that come with becoming a parent.
Motherhood changed everything.
Before becoming a perinatal professional, I spent over ten years working in communication and digital marketing, after studying art and earning a degree in web strategy. It was a creative and stimulating career, but over time, I felt a growing disconnect. I wanted my work to feel meaningful, aligned, and deeply human.
My own pregnancies, my experience of birth, postpartum, and early parenting completely reshaped my identity, my priorities, and my relationship to my body, my emotions, and my femininity. I became deeply fascinated by the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, the postpartum period, and the invisible emotional shifts women go through during these phases.
Supporting women through these transitions stopped being an interest, it became a calling.
Why Motherhood in France exists?
When my husband moved to France permanently in 2020, we were excited to start a family. I became pregnant in 2021, and very quickly we found ourselves navigating medical appointments, ultrasounds, and administrative processes entirely in French.
None of the healthcare professionals we met spoke English. I had to translate everything for my partner, while being pregnant, emotional, and overwhelmed myself. Often, I simply didn’t have the energy to translate everything. That invisible mental load deeply affected our experience as a couple.
After our daughter was born, the challenges intensified. Like many new parents, we struggled during the postpartum period, emotionally, relationally, mentally. Yet finding affordable, English-speaking support in France felt almost impossible. Waiting lists were long, and private therapy was often out of reach.
That’s when it became clear to me:
there is a real gap in perinatal and parenting support for non-French-speaking families in France.
And no one should feel excluded from their own motherhood or parenting journey because of language or cultural barriers.
How I support you today
Through Motherhood in France, I offer online, one-to-one support in English, accessible from anywhere in France (or abroad). My work focuses on:
-
Pregnancy & emotional preparation for birth
-
Postpartum adjustment & identity shifts
-
Parenting support and emotional regulation
-
Mental load, exhaustion, and overwhelm
-
Supporting couples and co-parents across cultures
-
Reconnecting with femininity, intuition, and self-trust
I work through short- or medium-term accompaniment, always in a gentle, non-judgmental, and deeply human way. My approach is holistic, practical, and grounded in lived experience, holding space for emotions, questions, doubts, and transformation.
My vision
Motherhood in France is more than a service, it’s a space of belonging.
My dream is to grow this project into a multilingual support platform, bringing together perinatal and parenting professionals who understand the realities of expatriate life, cultural transitions, and the emotional complexity of motherhood.
So that every woman, every parent, and every family living in France can feel supported, understood, and never alone, whatever language they speak.
